The 28th Awit Awards winners have been chosen, and we have the full list of those deserving musicians and artists who took home the trophies held on December 9 at the Music Museum in Greenhills, San Juan.
Fresh from her successful two-night sold-out concert From The Top, Pop Star Royalty Sarah Geronimo won the Album of the Year for Perfectly Imperfect, while rock royalty Yeng Constantino won two awards, including Song of the Year for “Ikaw”.
Sunday PinaSaya host Julie Anne San Jose, also known as Asia’s Pop Sweetheart picked up two major awards, including Best Selling Album for her sophomore album Deeper under GMA Records and Best Rap Recording with Abra.
Other top winners include The Voice Kids season one runner-up Darren Espanto, who won the Best New Male Recording Artist and Best Album Packaging, Your Face Sounds Familiar Season 2 finalist KZ Tandingan, who won for Best Ballad Recording, rock band Pupil, who won Music Video of the Year, R&B Queen Kyla for the song “Salbabida,” singer Johnoy Danao bagged the Best Performance by a Male Recording Artist and Best World Music Recording, and Mr. Pure Energy went on to nab the awards for Best Inspirational/Religious Recording and Best Song Written for Movie/TV/Stage Play for “Ipagpatuloy Mo, Galing ng Pilipino”.
Rock band The Dawn received the Dangal ng Musikang Pilipino Award. “Thanks to Awit. We couldn’t be there unfortunately. But it’a sign that my vitamins must be working because we lasted this long to gain that recognition,” Jett Pangan beamed.
Held annually, the Awit Awards is organized by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI).
