A review of Cow & Chicken Modern Brunch Dining

By Daryl Lim

When I first heard about Cow & Chicken, the first thing that came to my mind was the late 90’s cartoon. Immediately, I thought it’d be just like the cartoon: wild, colorful, vibrant, and out of this world. Imagine my surprise when I came to see that it was this joint with a down home, earthy, laid back feel. At the same time, after seeing their menu, the prices weren’t expensive at all. A dinner date for two would only set you back a little under a thousand pesos, and you’d most likely walk away with a really full stomach right after.

“We wanted to serve people who liked their meals properly made with care” says part owner Sam Beltran. “We believe in the local industry and our local suppliers with the kind of quality they provide, and we’re proud to say that all of our meat is locally sourced.” Judging by her statement, I do have to agree with her.

The steak we had was just the right amount of tender, cooked well enough to savor the juices while it lingers in your mouth. The fries were made with a garlic flavor that was strong at first, yet became a little milder but more flavorful as the starches started breaking down. Their boneless fried chicken was also extremely juicy, and matched with their signature waffles, reminds me of one of my favorite California chicken and waffles joints. “All our dishes were definitely put to the test before we decided to put it in the menu, and we think that it’d put a smile on every face once more people start trying out our food.”

Cow & Chicken also plays host to some events. Spoken word performances, quiz nights, acoustic sessions, and arts & crafts lessons could suddenly pop up on their calendar on any given night. As Sam says, “I think the diversity of what we offer gives us our identity.” and right she is. Aside from being a restaurant, Cow & Chicken also serves locally made beers, both the mass produced kind and IPA’s. They also have a great selection of hard liquor, and they’re not astronomically priced like in other restaurants, so, in essence, a great deal could be had in Cow & Chicken.

Overall, Cow & Chicken Modern Brunch Dining is a great place to dine in. Whether you’d be with family, friends, a date, or even alone, the feel of the place makes you feel like you didn’t stray far from where you really want to be: a home away from home.
