When concert promoter Wilbros Live announced the much-awaited Cody Simpson show in the Newport Performing Arts Theater via their social media accounts, there was a raucous uproar online emanating from Cody Simpson’s most loyal supporters in the Philippines, the Filipino Simpsonizers. Here’s what Cody’s tremendously excited fans have to say about the brilliant Australian singer-songwriter, his music, and his upcoming concert.
On Why They Love Cody
Filipino Simpsonizers deeply value Cody’s artistry and musicality. With his freshest album entitled Free, Cody showcases his creative freedom after becoming an independent artist under his own record label, Coast House. Aside from his transformation from being a pop star signed to a prestigious recording company to an acoustic R&B artist in the independent music scene, the “La Da Dee” singer also underwent a musical change as he grew and his voice shifted from a teenage pop sound to a more soulful, mature vibe. Through all this, Cody’s ever-loving “Angels” continued to give nothing but unyielding support. Comparing the 13-year-old Cody on his rise to fame and the Cody now, there is an evident modification in his voice. Cody fan, Renz Niro, says that the 18-year-old singer “still hits those high notes and executes falsettos nicely.” Paula from Cody’s dedicated fanbase in the country, Cody Simpson Philippines, states that the Queensland-raised musician ventured from being a teen pop heartthrob to an artist who “finally became independent and [is] living out the kind of music” he is truly passionate about.
“He has his own style of music lyrically and artistically,” adds Simpsonizer Arrianne who mentions that she is in great awe of how Cody writes his own music. Another Filipino Cody fan, Jason, claims that “[Cody’s] music is able to captivate people in a way that even an angry mob would calm down and sit back while jamming to his [songs]. He’s one of those unique artists who offer non-generic music.” Also astounded by the acoustic sensation’s ability to write and make his own music, fellow Cody Simpson fan, Margarette, shares, “His transition from pop to acoustic rock and newly found creative freedom as a young independent artist make him stand out from musicians his age.”
Cody’s humble personality and kindness to his fans give the Simpsonizers endless reasons to love him. Aside from being an inspiration to his devoted supporters, Zea, a Filipina Simpsonizer, shares that Cody makes sure that he maintains “a close connection with his fans.” Co-fan, Jason, adds that he greatly admires the down-to-earth attitude of the musician-dancer. In spite of his fame—even collaborating with close friend and world superstar, Justin Bieber for a track called “Home To Mama“—Cody “treats his fans like his close friends and his crew like his family.”
To add to the infinite reasons to adore Cody Simpson, the former Dancing With The Stars contestant, surfer, awarded swimmer, and “Surfboard” singer also graduated valedictorian at his high school in 2014! In a video he posted on his Instagram account containing excerpts from his speech, Cody tells his high school peers: “It is possible to finish high school amidst having a very busy schedule and amidst working relentlessly towards chasing my wildest dreams.”
On His Upcoming Concert
Since the concert announcement, eager Filipino Simpsonizers have been counting down the days ‘til the highly anticipated show. Arrianne, a fan who, along with many others, had waited years for a Cody Simpson concert in Manila, claims that it feels surreal to finally see him perform live.
What makes a Cody Simpson show indisputably special is the fact that he constantly establishes a solid connection with his audience. Filipina Simpson fan, Dianne, expresses that the best thing about his concert is that “he doesn’t make it all about him—he wants the audience to feel inspired.” Fellow fan, Zea, attests to this by describing Cody’s shows as a serene feeling where the audience creates a potent bond with the singer’s music.
After watching videos of Cody’s live performances, Cody Simpson Philippines member, Paula, shares that she always gets chills when she hears the crowd sing along to every word. There is a profound relationship between Cody and his fans, and, as Paula describes, the venue is transformed into an emotion-filled dome where the fans are blanketed by the sound they have always loved.
“He’s one of those few artists who sound better live than on recorded songs,” reveals Cody fan, Margarette, who asserts that Cody is an exceptional guitarist with his insertion of improvised riffs and solos between songs. “Cody doesn’t need back-up vocals, dancers, and LED walls to shine. He just jams his heart out with his band [in] every single show he plays,” she adds.
