An exciting chapter for the band with a new sound and approaches begins with the release of a new song and video out on September 27 via Yellow Room Music
Madeline – the five-piece alternative pop band composed of vocalist and guitarist Madeline Ramboyong, lead guitarist RB Bandiola, bassist Jerome Faustino, keyboardist Jesser Sison, and drummer Shan Regalado – is proud and thrilled to share their new song “Sayang” with their fans. Prior to this, they released some familiar hits on Spotify, including “Kaya Kong Mag-isa,” “Tinamaan,” “Hintay,” “‘Di Bale Na Lang,” and Wala Na.”
Written by RB Bandiola, “Sayang” is a song about moving on from a past heartbreak, exploring the emotions of moving forward while dealing with a sense of regret as you recall the memories from the relationship.
RB beams, “‘Sayang’ began with writing the lyrics and arranging the music. We recorded a demo of the song and shared it with the rest of the band to familiarize them with the tune and chords. After a few rehearsals to finalize the arrangement, we proceeded to record the track in the studio.”
Madeline explains, “‘Sayang’ was a collaborative effort. RB wrote the lyrics, and the band took care of the music. Jerome was the wizard behind most of the guitar parts, while Jesser (Sison) handled the keyboard parts. It was a real team effort, and we’re really proud of how it turned out.”
Speaking on the music video, Madeline says, “The music video for ‘Sayang’ is basically inspired by the movie TED. It’s about how people’s opinions matter, but they shouldn’t define your worth. The music video is kinda creative. It’s got this vibe with lights everywhere and people moving around nonstop. Jeremy Abaño directed it, and Charles Mangubat (our manager) and me were the producers. Yellow Room Music also gave us a lot of support on this vibe. It’s a really creative video that captures the energy of the song perfectly.”
Director Jeremy Abaño proudly shares, “Directing the music video for Madeline’s song ‘Sayang’ was a unique experience for me. The song, which tells the story of a breakup and loss of love, was set against the backdrop of an amusement park—a setting that seemed contradictory at first. Madeline, the band’s vocalist, came up with the idea to shoot in a place full of joy and excitement, which intrigued me. I found it fascinating how she chose a location typically associated with happiness to visually express a song rooted in sadness. This juxtaposition of emotions really allowed for a powerful contrast, enhancing the song’s narrative.
“In terms of my direction, I wanted to keep the video simple yet impactful. I suggested a narrative of two lovers in the amusement park, a happy place where their sadness became even more pronounced. We shot scenes of them walking around, riding the attractions, all while the weight of their heartbreak lingered in every frame. The visuals aligned with the melancholy of the lyrics, creating a beautiful contrast,” he adds.
Madeline’s music is edgy, yet versatile enough to shift from one genre to another. Influenced by artists such as The 1975, Daydreamers, Lizzy McAlphine, Beabadoobee, Michelle Branch, Plumb and Barbie Almalbis, each member make sure not to forget incorporating their own style of music to their original songs.
“We’ve come a long way since those early days. We’re constantly learning and evolving, both as individuals and as a band. Expect to hear new sound and approaches, while staying true to our roots.”
The band is signed under Yellow Room Music founded by Monty Macalino of Mayonnaise.
“Si Mads noong Paraluman pa lang, alam ko na immense na ang talent niya. So when she went solo, at naging Madeline, I didn’t think twice about helping her and the group. I’m excited about their new song (‘Sayang’), and I hope they continue to create more songs,” Monty beams.
Don’t miss Madeline’s single and video launch on September 27, 2024 at TakeOver Lounge Bar. Party starts at 8PM. With special guests and performances from SUD, Caren Tevanny, Write Turn, and Mojofly.
