Fresh off the back of their explosive, adrenaline-fueled headline sets at EU summer festivals, international superstars Major Lazer – the collaborative project of Diplo, Walshy Fire and Jillionaire have dropped their highly-anticipated new single, “Cold Water,” featuring Justin Bieber & MØ, released via Because Music/Mad Decent.
Less than an hour after the song premiered, “Cold Water” has skyrocketed to No. 1 on U.S. iTunes’ singles sales chart. The song is now No. 1 on iTunes in 60 countries.
The song was co-written with Ed Sheeran and co-produced by Benny Blanco. “Cold Water” is the follow up to their smash hit “Light It Up” feat. Nyla & Fuse ODG and “Lean On”, which has amassed a monstrous 1.5b hits on Youtube and 820b Spotify streams, becoming the most streamed song of all time.
Revealing how the song came about, Grammy Award winner Diplo shares, “I had been trying to link with Benny Blanco and Ed Sheeran for years to find the right song we could all work on together and the moment I heard this one, I knew that it was the one.”
He adds, “The timing was perfect and when we approached Justin, he was also in love with the song we all had written. I thought it would be interesting to incorporate another vocal and seeing she’s family, I reached out to MØ and we decided to try our best to make something fresh and interesting as Major Lazer.”
