Crime and double-crosses is the theme of the latest action-packed thriller on the big screens. Triple 9 (999) is an emergency code for an officer shot down, and that is the plan hatched by a group of criminals in order to distract the police force while they are pulling their biggest heist.
The cinematic gem features intense action led by an ensemble cast featuring Casey Affleck (Good Will Hunting, Gone Baby, Gone), as Chris Allen, a rookie cop who is being set up to be the target. Academy Award nominee Woody Harrelson (The Hunger Games, Zombieland, Natural Born Killers) is Allen’s uncle, a sergeant in the police force who is investigating the connection of his squad with the Russian Mafia. Together, they go head-to-head with the corrupt cops and hardened criminals, including Allen’s partner Marcus Atwood (Anthony Mackie who played Falcon in the Captain America: Winter Soldier and Ant-Man) and Russel Welch (Norman Reedus of The Walking Dead), who are acting under orders of Michael Belmont (Chiwetel Ejiofor, 12 Years A Slave) the leader of the criminal group and the mastermind behind the robbery. Kate Winslet, who plays Irina Vlaslov, is the gang’s moll who blackmails the group of corrupt cops and criminals to carry out the robbery. Other notable cast members include Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Teresa Palmer (I Am Number Four, Pointbreak), and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman).
Aside from the cast that contains an awesome array of acting award winners, nominees, and pop culture icons, another attraction is Australian film director John Hillcoat’s cinematic resume that includes a documentary on INXS, the Cannes Film Festival entry Lawless and the post-apocalyptic drama The Road.
The explosive action movie is an Open Road production that is set to be released by OctoArts Films International on February 24 at major theaters nationwide.
