Meet the new R&B queen

Touted as the new queen of R&B according to NYLON Magazine, half-Pinay half used to be with the British Girl Group The Saturdays and was able to hold a promo tour in Manila back in  2009. Her mom  is from Davao, Vanessa revealed during one of her interviews that her mom is a nurse. She also has a younger sister. Her entire family try to go to the Philippines as often as possible. She’s been here quite a few times already. And she likes going back whenever she can—usually at Christmastime and she wants  to visit Boracay again.

Showing no signs of slowing down and following the serious buzz she created with her captivating debut solo EP Chapter One and the release of her last track ‘Good Good’ which Hunger described as ‘the sexiest song of the year’, i-D as a ‘song so nice they named it twice’ and further rave reviews from the likes of PAPER and The FADER – Vanessa White returns with her brand new track “Running Wild”.

Premiered on NYLON, the track is featured on her hotly anticipated second solo EP Chapter Two, which is now available on iTunes, Spotify, Deezer, Google Play and Apple Music.

With production from the dynamic London producer LongLivThePlug, the vibrant track mixes urgent hip-hop and future R&B beats with Vanessa’s sublimely soulful vocal and brilliantly showcases her sharp song-writing talent which has helped her to garner praise from music fans and outlets such as Wonderland, Complex, The Line of Best Fit, Clash, Beats 1, 1Xtra and Capital Xtra and more since launching her solo career towards the end of 2015.

On “Running Wild”, Vanessa White told NYLON:

“Whilst working on the EP I started to really embrace being more honest and open with what I write about in the studio and ’Running Wild’ is a product of that. It’s about playing out a scenario in your mind that might or might not happen but because it explores using your imagination and tapping into your own desires, you can take it as far as you would like to. It’s about taking control of what you want and how you feel.

I’ve grown so much over the past year, both musically and through life experiences, including this solo journey which at times can be a bit of a rollercoaster. I can hear and feel that growth in the music and hope people who listen to it can feel it too and are able to take something away from it for themselves.”

Good, Good

Continuing to make her mark on the music scene, Vanessa releases Chapter Two on Friday which has already shot to the top of iTunes’ Bestselling R&B pre-order chart and the top ten of the general Bestselling pre-order chart. Adding to “Running Wild” and the Mkulu produced “Good Good” – and stunning stripped-back versions of both tracks – the EP also features three brand new tracks. With production from Ads Valu on “Rotation” and “Pressure” and Chloe Martini on “Trust Me,” the previously unheard tracks see Vanessa building on the waves she has caused and taking things to the next level with her show-stopping vocal prowess and own unique take on addictive R&B melodies.

Over the past year, Vanessa has been putting in the hours in the studio working with a host of talented and in-demand producers and musicians including the likes of PRGRSN, Wizzy Wow, Shakka, Musicman Ty (Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, P Diddy) and Snakehips and has also been collaborating with innovative creatives such as Rob Heppell (Crystal Fighters, New Pharaohs, Nowness), Charlotte Rutherford (PAPER, NYLON, Vogue) and Stephanie Sian Smith (FKA Twigs, Blood Orange, House of Holland).

Also attracting support from the world of fashion and appearing across respected style bibles including Vogue, GQ, Harper’s Bazaar and ES Magazine, Vanessa White continues to prove why her star is so rapidly on the rise!
